As Canada's largest youth shelter, Covenant House opens doors of opportunity and hope to homeless youth. More than just a place to stay, we provide 24/7 crisis care and have the widest range of services under one roof, including education, counselling, health care and employment assistance.
Covenant House has helped thousands of young people move from a life on the streets to a life with a future. About 4,000 young people turn to Covenant House annually.
To do all of this, Covenant House relies on donors for 80 percent of its almost $17 million annual operating budget.
Dixon Hall first opened its doors in the winter of 1929 as a soup kitchen in the Great Depression. Today Dixon Hall helps the residents of Downtown East Toronto make a better future for themselves. This includes Regent Park - Canada's largest public housing complex - and homeless men and women living in the downtown core.
Each year, Dixon Hall's Summer Day Camp gives more than 120 inner-city children, ages 3-12, from Toronto's Regent Park community a summer to remember. It's all about learning, growing and making new friends. There are games, sports, art and crafts, outings and a breakfast club. The camp counsellors are local youth who work hard to keep the kids stimulated and engaged. Thanks to the camp, these counsellors can gain a positive employment track record, which is a tremendous help when you're in a community with few opportunities.
The Robin Barhydt Rocks on Fund
The Robin Barhydt Rocks on Fund was established in December 2006 by Betty Ann McPherson in memory of her daughter Robin Barhydt who was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosacoma, a rare childhood Cancer that starts in the muscle tissue.
Through their dedication and hard work Ms. McPherson and her family has raised over $29,000 for Rhabdomyosarcoma Research at The Hospital for Sick Children.
